If your from the east coast of the USA you can hop on an Amtrak train and take the train to Washington for a day trip if you are close to Washington. Right outside the Amtrak train station in Washington you can see the US Capitol building. Behind the train staion up stairs you can take a bus to the White House as the bus will drop you a few blocks from White House as it's an easy walk to take photos of yourself with the White House in the background.
